When you practice or perform Yoga and have an obsession with the correct posture of it, remember that your passion should also be in eating a healthy Yogic Diet. Yoga experts believe that Yogic diet is the core aspect of Yoga. A perfect Yoga diet not only develops a good eating habit, but it also nurtures the Yoga regime.

There are a lot of myths when people think of what to eat when practising Yoga sessions. Many believe that you should eat fruit before performing Yoga, many people believe that a vegetarian diet is the same as Yogic diet; some believes that eating cow ghee helps to ease your body stiffness, etc.

So what is Yogic diet?  Well, Yogic diet is a diet which has specific rules to follow. We will discuss these rules one by one in detail, and these rules follow by Yoga practitioners all over the world.

Eat Saatvik Diet

According to Yogic philosophy, there are three types of food, and these can categorize as Rajasic foods, Tamasic foods and Saatvik foods. Rajasik foods are the foods which are dry, salty, spicy, hot and bitter. Whereas, Tamasic foods are foods which has a strong smell or are bland like tobacco, garlic, onion, alcohol, Meat or fermented foods. 

Saatvik foods consider being the best for the Yoga practitioners as “Saatvik” itself means pure. Saatvik foods are generally grains, fresh vegetables, legumes, mild spices and mild sweet foods. Saatwik diet also consists of few dairy products such as cow ghee and milk. Milk from cow should be raw, unpasteurized and organic and should be directly from cow Teet.

Saatvik foods nourish the human body well, and it also maintains a peaceful state of mind. It is also straightforward to digest, and it also enables your mind and body to function at its optimum potential. Few examples of Saatvik foods are:

  • Wholemeal bread
  • Fresh fruit and vegetables
  • Pure fruit juices
  • Milk
  • Butter and cheese
  • Legumes
  • Nuts
  • Sprouted seeds
  • Honey and herb teas
